An alternate solution to stay in Havana, is to rent a room in a private house. Much cheaper than an hotel room (from 20 to 30$), and often much more friendly. Of course you'll hardly get the privacy of an hotel room, but you'll also find out what everyday cuban life is all about>>>>>>>
Certainly the most pleasant district to stay, if you like the historic part of the town. The Cuban government just spent a lot of money to restore the oldest part of Havana (Habana vieja), and has opened some accommodations in old restored mansions converted in small hotels>>>>
Our favourite destination after Havana. Aquiet but beautiful city between close to Trinidad. Once a very wealthy town, Cienfuegos still offers some nice piece of colonial architecture. And it has a small Malecon too !!
Vedado is the "modern" (modern = late 50's of course) district of Havana, where you'll find the best hotels. Not the most interesting part of the city, but it is centric and confortable.
Cienfuegos is a quiet and charming middle size town between Havana and Trinidad. It is not a big tourist zone yet, so enjoy it before it becomes another tourist trap....>>>>>>>
